Mission: The mission of the Darfur Action Group is to spread awareness of the genocide that is happening in Darfur, Sudan. Furthermore, the Darfur Action Group aims to encourage people to take action towards ending the conflict. The group was founded by a high school junior in September 2006. Since then, the Darfur Action Group of Tacoma has participated in large campaigns, supported anti-genocide campaigns such as the Save Darfur Coalition, STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition, Amnesty International and the Human Rights Campaign. The Darfur Action Group hopes to develop and expand over the next year, as well as help put a stop to genocide.

Projects: The Darfur Action Group has been host to a series of projects and campaigns throughout 2006 and 2007. Here is a current list of project information.

May 26, 2007 - Melanie Cole in Standwood - Darfur Action Group founder, Melanie Cole, made an hour and a half speech at a Darfur seminar in Standwood, Washington. 

April 21, 2007 - Make Noise for Darfur! - Acoustic Show featuring local acts Tree Roots in the Basement, Greenfield, Cody Madison, Quinn Lewington and Oberhofer. 

March 3, 2007 - "Sometimes in April" at Tacoma Public Library - The Darfur Action Group hosted a screening of the HBO movie "Sometimes in April." The movie deals with the Rwandan genocide. After the movie, the group held a discussion about the parallels between Rwanda and Darfur. Guest speaker, Seth Weinberger, a political science professor at the University of Puget Sound spoke about action plans for ending the genocide.

December 8, 2006 - Darfur Action Group at Club SOTA The Darfur Action Group made an appearance at local music venue, Club SOTA. The group took donations through the sale of handcrafted merchandise.  Stickers from local graphic designers Brandon Hughes, Will Good and Kimmy Durken were available for sale.

September 30, 2006 - Pamphlet Campaign - The first project of the Darfur Action Group was a pamphlet campaign. The group put together, printed and passed out 500 pamphlets to residents in the Tacoma Area. Downtown merchants such as urbanXchange, Cutter's Point Coffee, The University of Washington: Tacoma Bookstore, Abella's Pizzeria and Tacoma School of the Arts were generous in accepting pamphlets for in-store distribution.
